Gary Hiscott
8th February 2008 - 25th April 2008
This is Gary's frist solo exhibition at Theatr Hafren, where in 2006 he won a perize for his painting of 'Commercial Street, Newtown'. Much of his work is an expression of abundance, echoing the verse 'The Valleys stand SO thick with corn, that even they are singing' from psalms. Painting as a Christian he gives expression to his faith through broad, colour-filled, physical strokes.
Born and brought up in Birmingham, now living in Newtown, Gary paints from a rich imagery of Welshness gained from childhood visits to his parents hometown of Tredegar. In Birmingham his work was shown at the RBSA with solo events at libraries and theatres.
