Happy New Year and welcome to the first edition of 2009!
We all hope that you have had a wonderful Christmas, but
if putting away the tinsel and taking down the tree has
left you feeling blue, then we are here with a packed programme
to banish away the doldrums!
To tickle your funny bones we welcome back the indomitable
Welsh star Rhod Gilbert who is forced to acknowledge
that he may be having a very mild nervous breakdown all
over an award-winning mince pie! We also welcome, making
his Theatr Hafren debut, Dave Spikey. Co-Writer star
of Phoenix Nights and team captain of 8 out of 10 Cats,
Dave will be tackling the old adage "Laughter is the Best
Medicine". Following the success in Edinburgh the Ha
Ha Hamlet Boys will be asking the question to go or
not to go, the answer is rather simple YES!
Drama is well represented by the return of two companies
that have delighted audiences here. European Arts
will be bringing their rendition of the Dickens classic
Following on from the wonderful, nostalgic Abigails Party,
London Classic Theatre return with the award-winning comedy
with a delightful sting in the tail Humble Boy, Mappa
Mundi will be performing the fast paced comedy of manners
She Stoops to Conquer by Oliver Goldsmith.
Our own talent is showcased by the Montgomeryshire Federation
of Young Farmers with their Pantomime Festival - oh
yes they will! Newtown Musical Theatre Company will be bringing
Oliver to the stage and our Welsh youth talent that is Ysgol
Theatr Maldwyn are reconstructing the Chartist riots in
Llanidloes with Pum Diwrnod 0 Ryddid.
Together with Grimethorpe Brass Band, African Dance
with Kasai Masai, rock climber extraordinaire Chris
Sharma, Folk giants Steeleye Span and a host
of others, Theatr Hafren is the venue to be at this spring.
